"There are many who are living far below their possibilities because they are continually handing over their individualities to others. Do you want to be a power in the world? Then be yourself. Be true to the highest within your soul and then allow yourself to be governed by no customs or conventionalities or arbitrary man-made rules that are not founded on principle."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"5pm at the laundromat in Harper's Ferry, waiting for Terry and Tracy to pick me up. What awesome friends to drive down from Pennsylvania and meet me here! I am excited. It was POURING rain this morning for the first 2-3 hours of hiking. It was wading down the Appalachian Creek - the trail was completely under water. I got to town at 1pm at went straight to the ATC office and got my picture taken for their album. I am officially the 104th hiker to pass through Harpers Ferry this year. How cool! I thought there were at least twice as many people in front of me."

"Ter and Trace and gone. I am here alone at the Briscoe House B & B living it up and celebrating 1,000 miles. We stayed at the Angler Inn last night - a great B & B across the street. We went to Sheperdstown for dinner last night and again for lunch today - what a great town. I loved the pharmacy cafe. It was great to see friends and know that I have people at home rooting for me! Tomorrow I will be in Maryland."
